FAQ
What is Gametapes.com?
Gametapes.com is the first website dedicated to the production
and sale of DVDs of high school and youth sports. By partnering
with state associations, high school teams, local TV networks
and others, Gametapes will bring the very best games to a
national audience.
Do the teams featured in your DVDs receive a share
of Gametapes’ profits?
Gametapes pays a proportion of its income to whoever owns
the rights to the video footage featured in the DVDs that
it sells. The rights to a game might be owned by a team, the
sanctioning body for a game, by a local television station
or a combination of any of these. But you can rest assured
that Gametapes’ revenues make an important contribution
to the high school and youth sports teams whose games it sells.
What is involved in having Gametapes film our event
or game?
Once you contact Gametapes we will work closely with you to
establish the type of production you are looking for …
whether it’s full game coverage or just highlights.
We will ask you to sign a simple contract giving us the exclusive
rights to produce and sell DVD’s and videotapes of the
event or game.
We will scout the location of the shoot and liaise with facility
managers about camera positions, power supply, cable runs
etc. Nothing is left to chance.
After filming the game or event, we will edit the video together,
adding music and graphics where appropriate. We will then
produce a DVD master and a DV video master. These will be
used to produce the DVD and VHS copies that will be sold via
this website or directly through your organization.
Is there a cost to have Gametapes film our event
or game?
This will depend upon the nature of the event or game, and
which teams are taking part. If we believe that we can sell
enough DVDs to cover our filming costs, we will offer to film
for free and to share revenues with you. However, we might
also ask you to guarantee an agreed number of DVD sales or
you might want to pay the full filming costs in order to maximize
your revenue share.
Would you sell our games?
Yes, assuming that we can agree on the details of a contract
to do so. The terms of any such agreement will depend upon
factors such as how much work is involved in converting your
tapes into DVDs, how many DVDs we think we can sell etc. If
you have game footage that you would like us to turn into
DVDs and sell for you, please do get in touch.
Can you help me find a game that‘s not in your
catalogue?
The Gametapes message board is a good starting point for anyone
looking for video of a game that is not currently for sale
at Gametapes.com. Or if you have a video that might interest
others, feel free to advertise it there! You could also consider
contacting the coaches at the schools involved. Otherwise
please e-mail Gametapes and we’ll tell you if we have
plans to add the game to our store anytime soon.
Will Gametapes continue to make games available on
VHS?
I’m afraid not … with DVD players available from
chain stores and online for as little as $24.99, we believe
that everyone deserves the far superior picture quality that
DVD offers. In addition, the costs of duplicating and shipping
VHS copies are much greater than those for DVDs, making it
difficult for us to keep our prices down.
What equipment does Gametapes use?
We use the latest DV (Digital Video) cameras, VTR’s
and mixers to ensure the very highest production standards,
and our camera operators are all professionally trained and
experienced.
If Gametapes films an event, can parents and coaches
still videotape it too?
Yes, we don’t want to stop any parent, team coach or
fan from videotaping the game. All we do ask is that we be
given the exclusive rights to both film the game and sell
DVDs. The contract you sign will specify that your stewards
and facility managers should remove anyone found trying to
sell unauthorized coverage of the event.
